My Approach

I am Matija, the founder of Astrokod. This page explains how I approach astrological work, consultation, and traditional symbolic knowledge.

My interest in astrology began long before I started working professionally with clients.

After years of independent study, it became clear to me that a more serious understanding of astrology requires systematic education, work with teachers, and long-term practice. I began formal astrological training in 2013, and over the years continued to study different Western and Eastern traditions, including Jyotish, Vastu, and numerology.

Throughout that process, I increasingly came to see that no single school of astrology can encompass the whole of human experience. Different traditions have developed different languages for describing the human being, time, and the circumstances of life. Each has its own strengths, its own emphases, and its own limitations.

My approach has also been strongly influenced by many years of engagement with philosophy and by professional experience in technical fields, which is why I approach astrology both as a symbolic language and as a field of systematic inquiry.

I am interested not only in how a particular technique works, but also in why different traditions sometimes describe the same reality through different symbolic languages.

For that reason, I do not begin with the question of which school a particular technique belongs to, but with what, in a given moment, can help a person better understand themselves and their life path.

I do not regard astrology and related disciplines as systems that provide ready-made answers. I see them as symbolic languages that can help a person understand themselves more clearly, recognise the circumstances they are in, and discern the direction they wish to take.

Schools and traditions

Western astrology

Western astrology is the foundation of my work and the field I have studied for the longest time.

Since 2013, I have systematically studied different branches of modern and traditional Western astrology. I studied at the Centar za astrološku edukaciju in Zagreb under the guidance of Igor Ognjenović, where I encountered a broad range of contemporary astrological schools and approaches.

In my consultation work, the strongest influence on me has been Steven Forrest's evolutionary astrology. Its starting point is not predicting events, but an understanding of a person's inner processes, life choices, and possibilities for growth.

Alongside contemporary approaches, I have also studied traditional astrology, horary astrology, and Hellenistic astrology, all of which preserve important insights from the astrological heritage.

I most often use Western astrology when I want to understand a person through their patterns of behaviour, the challenges they face, and their possibilities for development.

Jyotish

Jyotish, or Vedic astrology, represents one of the oldest unbroken astrological traditions in the world.

I completed eight levels of education under the guidance of Ignac Peras, through several years of studying classical Jyotish techniques and the philosophical background of this tradition.

In practice, Jyotish often helps me understand the context of the life period a person is going through. I find systems of time cycles especially valuable because they allow a broader view of how events develop and which themes are currently coming into focus in a person's life.

Although Jyotish contains a large number of specialised techniques, in my work I use only those that contribute to a clearer understanding of the particular person and their situation.

Vastu

Vastu is a traditional Indian discipline that studies the relationship between the human being and the space in which they live and act.

I became acquainted with it through my education with Ignac Peras, alongside my study of Jyotish.

I do not use Vastu routinely in consultations. I most often include it when the conversation indicates that a person's living space, home, or working environment plays an important role in the questions, challenges, or goals they bring to the consultation.

It can be especially useful when adapting houses or apartments, or when planning a new home, if a person wants to think through the layout and shaping of the space in accordance with Vastu principles as far as realistically possible.

In such cases, I regard space as part of the wider picture of life rather than as an isolated technical problem.

Numerology

Numerology studies the symbolism of numbers and their patterns in human life.

I devoted myself to it more seriously through training in Pythagorean karmic numerology with Ranka Klobučar.

Compared with astrology, numerology often gives me a very quick insight into certain life themes. I use it for questions related to relationships, family patterns, personal cycles, choosing a child's name, naming business projects, or selecting favourable periods for particular undertakings.

Sometimes numerology is only an additional perspective within a broader consultation, while at other times it provides the clearest answer to the question being asked.

In practice

How I use these approaches

Each person comes with different questions, experiences, and needs.

For that reason, during consultations I do not follow a predetermined formula or mechanically apply every method I know.

Sometimes a natal chart is enough to understand the situation. Sometimes Jyotish provides the key information. In other cases, numerology or questions related to the space in which a person lives and works may play an important role.

My experience has shown me that different traditions often describe the same life processes in different languages. That is precisely why I try to use what, at a given moment, can contribute most to understanding.

I do not regard astrology and related disciplines as systems that provide ready-made answers. I see them as symbolic languages that can help a person see their own path more clearly, understand the circumstances they are in, and recognise the possibilities before them.

I often feel that in a consultation I am not telling a person something entirely new, but helping to illuminate what is already present within them and has not yet taken a sufficiently clear form.

In that sense, an astrologer is not someone who knows another person's path for them, but someone who can help them recognise it more clearly.
